Tio Kurun Warun

Kurun Warun ImageKurun Warun was born in Australia in 1966. He is a member of the indigenous Guntijamara tribe and is a descendant from Truganini, the last Tasmanian indigenous queen.

Kurun Warun whose name means 'Hissing Swan' now lives in the Noosa hinterland in South East Queensland. He expresses his culture through art and music, and has won international recognition in both fields.

Though strongly rooted in traditional Aboriginal dot art, Kurun Warun's paintings tell traditional Aboriginal stories in new, fluid and exciting ways. His works are highly sought after and have become valuable pieces of collectable aboriginal art which hang in prominent corporate and private art collections around the world, including those of: Cambridge University, ATSIC, Oprah Winfrey, Michael Schumaker and Pierce Brosnan, amongst others.

Kurun Warun also finds expression through traditional dance and music. He played a role in the Sydney 2000 Olympic games as a traditional artist, has appeared on NBC in the United States and before Chelsea Clinton, former US president's daughter.
